2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter – Review

The commercial vehicle war is already on with some of the top automakers trying to launch vehicles that are designed to offer better comfort and performance to the driver. Now, Mercedes Benz has come up with the new 2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter which is a full size van that aims for better fuel economy and green credentials that can appeal to many business owners in the modern age. The automaker has already made an announcement that the vehicle will be available in the market by fall 2013. Here we take a quick look at some of the top features of the vehicle in the 2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter review below.

In terms of design Mercedes Benz has decided to stay with the same exterior design that was used in the previous version for the year 2013. Hence, many buyers that are planning to buy the new 2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter will not find much difference in terms of style factor.

However, the designers have added few extra things that make 2014 Sprinter better than the previous version. The new version gets new LED headlights, bolder grille and backup camera on top of the rear doors that takes the full size van competition to the next level.

The cockpit of the 2014 Sprinter is much spacious and comfortable than the 2013 version. The seats are durable and firmer with durable covers. Mercedes Benz has also included 5.8 inch screen for infotainment system that includes Bluetooth, AUX, SD card and USB connectivity. This makes the interior better, comfortable and functional for the drivers.

The biggest change that one can find under the new Sprinter is right under the hood. The vehicle is powered by new 2.1 liter turbodiesel four cylinder engine that produces 161 horsepower and 265 lb feet of torque. The engine is mated with seven speed automatic transmission which makes it one of the most reliable commercial vans in the market. Mercedes Benz has done away with the turbocharged 3.0 liter diesel V6 engine that did not offer better fuel economy in the 2013 Sprinter.

So far Benz has not commented and provided the official fuel economy numbers but the car maker is sure that the new engine will offer 18% fuel economy improvement compared to the earlier engine.

Mercedes Benz definitely takes the commercial van competition to the next level with the inclusion of various safety features that are never heard before especially in commercial vans. The new 2014 Sprinter is incorporated with better safety features like Blind Spot Assist which is standard in all Sprinters. However, Sprinter also offers additional safety features like Highbeam Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Collision Prevent Assist and Adaptive Brake Assist which are optional. Mercedes Benz has also said that they would include Crosswind Assist feature to the van but that will only appear after 2015.

Mercedes Benz has not provided the official retail price for 2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter yet.

There is no doubt that Mercedes Benz has up the ante with the introduction of 2014 Sprinter that has better features than the previous 2013 model. This Sprinter is the most fuel efficient and the safest and also the most comfortable one but it definitely has a tough competition with Ford Ecoline that still holds 52% market share at the moment. On the other hand, it also gets some competition from Chevrolet Express Cargo that has 30% market hold. However, with better comfort and fuel economy on its side Sprinter has the opportunity to take over the competition.
