In today’s advanced technological world, the global automobile giants are trying hard to outshine their competitors in one way or the other and are furnishing their prototype vehicles with the best technology available. Today, I’ve decided to share with you the concept cars.
So, without further idea, let’s have a look at some of the top racing concept cars for the upcoming year:
1) The Honda NSX Concept 2014
Honda, the Japanese automobile giant unveiled its NSX GT500 class racing concept car to replace the existing HSV-010 GT vehicle. This new NSX edition is expected to have a V6 hybrid engine, while the HSV racing car was powered by a 3.4L V8 engine. Rumor has it that the new car will also be powered by a mid-engine 2.0L direct injection turbo-charged 4 cylinder feature.
One thing important to mention here is that the HSV-010 GT was equipped with the engine at the front, but for NSX, Honda expressed to have the mid-engine setup. The new car is expected to produce 500 hp.
2) Lexus Unveils LF-CC Race Car 2014
Lexus, as per expectations, will complete the production of its LF-CC Super GT car by early 2014 – thus replacing the current Lexus SC 430. The LF-CC concept car is a 2-door coupe type vehicle with an elegant and sporty exterior design. It was unveiled during the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
3) World’s Fastest Electric Racing Car – Nissan ZEOD RC 2014
According to Nissan, its new ZEOD RC concept racing car will be the world’s fastest electric power racing car – expected to give a speed of over 300 km/h. This car will have dual drive options, i.e. the driver will be able to switch between electric and petrol drive options. This, no doubt, is the concept of a future supercar.
Nissan ZEOD RC has been designed by Ben Bowlby, and as per his views, the electrification of this car is an important step towards the future racing cars. “Developing a car like Nissan ZEOD was a challenging task because it encompasses complicated racing car options, and if successful, the technology will be adopted for the road cars,” Bowlby said. He further added that the design team of ZEOD RC is concentrating more on the factors such as packaging and effective aerodynamic efficiency, more than any other thing. “Our goal is to provide maximum power with high-level of efficiency and accuracy,” he said.
The France-based tire producer, Michelin, will provide tires for the new prototype racing car, and it has been announced that Nissan ZEOD RC will take part in 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours.
4) Audi Sport Quattro Concept 2014
Audi just recently lifted the curtains from its new Sport Quattro Concept 2014. According to the manufacturer, inspiration of the Sport Quattro has been taken from the classic Quattro Line automobiles from the 1980s. It is expected that the new Quattro will produce 700hp with a plug-in hybrid power train.
Under the hood, Quattro will have a twin-turbo 4.0L V8 engine coupled with an 8-speed tiptronic transmission to all four wheels with support from a disk-shaped electric motor, and liquid-cooled 14.1 kW/h lithium ion battery pack. Audi claimed Quattro will be able to travel more than 30 miles on electricity and can accelerate to 62 miles/hour in just 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 190 mph.
5) Mercedes Reveals CLA 45 AMG Race Car Concept 2014
Mercedes will unveil its elegant racing car, the CLA 45 AMG racing series, in the current Frankfurt Motor Show. According to Mercedes, this vehicle will have a strong 2.0L 4 cylinder engine, which will deliver 360hp and produce 331 lb feet of torque. The engine will have 7-speed automatic transmission. There are rumors that the new CLA 45 AMG car will be cheaper as compared to other racing cars, and the driver will have a choice to enjoy drive of front or all the wheels.
Mercedes even plans to upgrade its suspension and brakes, while lightweight wheels and special high-performance binders will be installed to fit the racing track. Another special feature of this sporty vehicle will be its additional security to protect the driver. The seat will be made with Recaro carbon fiber that will facilitate HANS (Head and Neck Support). Additionally, a special race steering wheel has been designed, while an integrated fire extinguisher will be installed in the vehicle, too.
6) Bentley Continental GT Race Car Concept 2014
In the new Bentley’s Continental GT race car concept, the engineers have indicated to remove the 2,200 pounds of weight, reconfiguring the Continent GT V8’s 4.0L engine to produce 600hp. Moreover, a new aerodynamic package has also been planned for the car.
A carbon power driveshaft and an Xtrac 6-speed sequential gearbox with a limited slip differential, mounted as a transaxle for optimized weight distribution will be installed in the car. Suspension will also be improved to ensure safety.
